The plaque reads...

In honor of Sister Maureen Doyle

On May 23, 2006, to honor Sr. Maureen Doyle, Director, "Welcome the Children" was dedicated at Urban Community School. The sculpture was purchased with a donation from Carol and Mike Sherwin who desired to honor the leadership, wisdom and dedication of Sr. Maureen to provide children with high quality, spiritually enriched education and to ensure the future of Urban Community School. Carol and Mike suggested Sr. Maureen personally select an object for the entrance that reflected the message she wished to communicate to all those that entered the school.

Those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength;
They will soar on wings like eagles;
They will run, and not grow weary:
They will walk, and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Tom White, a sculptor in Bethel, Maine, created these statues in memory of Brittiney Wish Bevin (1985-2003) to depict Brittiney's love of children as evidenced by her work in Summer Mission Trips to Romanian and Indian Orphanages. Brittiney, a beautiful young woman inside and out, carries a young child on her back. This version of "Welcome the Children" includes two new, original children designed specifically for Urban Community School
