Urban Community School endeavors to be an educational resource for children, but also for their parents and guardians as well. In addition to providing seminars and speakers throughout the school year on various topics, educational materials and opportunities are included in the Yellow Envelope, a weekly communication packet between the school and home. Yellow Envelope materials are also available on our website here.
UCS expects and encourages parents to be involved in their children's education. UCS has an active Parent-Teacher Organization. Also, mandatory parent-teacher conferences are held twice per year in November and March. During conferences, teachers, students, and parents review the student's progress and discuss expectations and plans for upcoming lessons. Additionally, interim progress reports are sent home three times per year in October, January, and April, and other parent-teacher or parent-administration meetings are held on an as-needed basis.
Urban Community School families are expected to participate in two school-sponsored fundraising activities each year. Participation in these events can be either through selling products or by making a monetary contribution equal to each family's goal.
In the fall, UCS students and families participate in a magazine sale. This is completed through QSP and while the drive is officially occurs in the fall, family and friends may order magazines throughout the year via UCS' QSP portal on the Consumer Charities page. The spring fundraiser is a candy sale, for which each student is responsible for selling two boxes of candy.
Parents and friends of UCS can also support the school through your normal daily routine, including saving Box Tops and Campbell's Labels as well as through retail charity programs at Target, Giant Eagle, Heinen's and other stores. Please visit the Partner Charities page to find more information on these programs and how to enroll.
