All decisions regarding children with special needs are made on an individual basis depending upon the child.

Are students required to wear uniforms?

UCS has a dress code, which is established to help the students create and maintain a sense of dignity and respect. It includes dark green or white-collared shirts, as well as khaki, navy, or black pants or skirts, or dress jeans. Please see the Student/Parent Handbook for specific details regarding acceptable attire.

On what basis are applicants screened?

Primary points of entry for new students are preschool (age 3), prekindergarten (age 4), and kindergarten (age 5). Decisions for students in grades 1 – 7 are made on a case-by-case basis dependent upon space available as well as other admission factors. We do not admit new students in grade 8.

Admission is generally restricted to students living on the lower west side of Cleveland. Primary recruitment neighborhoods are Clark Fulton, Detroit Shoreway, Ohio City and Stockyards. Secondary neighborhoods are Brooklyn Centre, Cudell, Tremont and West Boulevard.
