TeachArtsOhio Artist In Residence

The TeachArtsOhio (TAO) program, funded by the Ohio Arts Council, brings schools and community organizations together with teaching artists to share engaging, personal, high-quality arts learning experiences. Engagements can vary from short introductory exposures lasting as few as five days to in-depth immersive experiences spanning a full school year.

In 2022/23, The Cleveland Print Room (CPR) conducted an engaging, experiential year-long artist residency at Urban Community School (UCS) that exposed middle school students to the art and practice of photography. Across 36 weeks, Doriyan Coleman utilized his photo-based expertise and practice to support UCS’s goal of providing an individualized, innovative, and challenging education for their students. In service of this, the Doriyan was at UCS from bell-to-bell two days a week, offering robust photography education rooted in Social-Emotional (SEL) and Socially Engaged Art (SEA) learning through small group classroom instruction and open studio hours.
